When should you store your motorcycle for winter?
In Estonia the riding season usually ends in October or November. Temperature, road conditions and salt decide the right time.
Signs that it is time
When you see these signs, it is better to store the bike.
Night frost
below 0 °C
Frost and ice make the road slippery, especially in the morning, on bridges and in shade.
Road salt
first salting
Salt speeds up rust. If you ride on a salted road, wash the bike straight after.
Cold asphalt
less grip
In the cold a tyre does not reach its working temperature. Grip in corners and under braking drops.
Dark days
less daylight
In the dark and rain, drivers see a motorcycle less well.
A typical season in Estonia
October–November
Bike into storage
Most riders store the bike when night frosts start and salt goes on the roads.
April–May
Bike out
Wait until the roads are clear of salt and sand. In spring, sand in corners is a big danger.
Book a place early
Our shortest storage period is 5 months. November to March or October to April covers the whole winter.
The garage has a limited number of places. Book before the first night frosts, so you can bring the bike in when you need to.
Do not leave your bike outside for the winter
We keep your motorcycle in a warm garage in Viimsi.
